Dear Hiring Manager,
I have put together this cover letter expressing my interest in marketing and communications positions in the Ottawa area, especially in the private or cultural sectors.
With my education and experience, I am able to fill everything from a coordinator to a manager or director role. My education includes a BA in political science and a Bilingual Certificate from Glendon College, York University, as well as professional development workshops in Social Media Content Strategy, Communications Planning, Writing, and New Media. In my last position as a Communications Advisor to a senator my duties included graphic design, including print advertisements, posters, and flyers, writing; media relations, including press releases, op-eds, press conferences, and support interviews; social media; photography; website content management, including HTML coding; event coordination; and liaising with suppliers.
In 2006 I co-founded a consulting company with my wife. Aside from overseeing marketing for the business, including the design and distribution of mass mail outs, I provided clients with marketing, communications and administrative solutions. These included designing promotional materials like brochures, manuals, and information packages. For the past year I've continued to provide small businesses with marketing support, especially in the areas of branding and designing promotional materials. Outside of work I spend my time volunteering as a TV camera operator for a local webcast and work on creative projects like digital magazines, films and videos to improve my skills.
